PakTengku Azman ( who had come along to challenge pakdokter at golf) and family had gone out to Chaweng , the downtown of Koh Samui after checking into our hotel. So pakdokter and partner decided to ask the concierge for recommendations for fine dining, instead of settling for the usual standard hotel offerring.
We were directed to the ' Fisherman's Village' which was an easy 15 minutes drive from the Maenam Beach where we were.
The 'Fisherman's Village' at the Bophut and Choeng Mon beaches is simply a seaside street about a kilometre long with rows of shops, apartments and restaurants lining all along the narrow one-way street. Shops selling tee-shirts, swim-suits, Thai textiles and souveniers are a plenty. For food, there was an array of Thai, Indian, French, Italian, Irish and Sea-food restaurants to choose from.
tee-shirts, swim-suits....
Pakdokter and partner settled for the 'Pier', a restaurant belonging to a young Belgian couple which served a 'fusion' of Thai-Western dishes.
The view from the restaurant was fantastic. The dining table on a verandah overlooking the sea
the Bophut pier in front of 'the Pier' restaurant
the sunset to the west of the dining platform...

Some of the buildings along the beach were renovated into apartments and - believe it or not - the apartments were being rented out for 7500 bahts ( RM750) per week. This is one place to consider in future trips!
