Pakdokter and partner decided to not join the tour group for dinner - instead we ate at the food-court of a new shopping mall down the street from our hotel. We had also bought tickets for a cruise on the Han River. The cruise lasted almost 90 minutes and sailed up and down the Han River covering the stretch between the 3 man bridges across the river. Unfortunately the guide only spoke in Vietnamese and we had no idea what he was talking about.
The price of the ticket for the Han River cruise was 100,000 VND a person ( RM15) and this included a can of Pepsi or a local beer. Although it was not so hot at night - it was still quite humid. The esplanade was a hive of activity with city folks out for cooler air. There were potrait artistes and at some corners people danced the jive, cha cha cha etc to blaring music. As pakdokter's partner was busy taking pictures of the scene - pakdokter stood by watching guys and girls doing the waltz, rumba etc. Suddenly a wholesome not-so-young Vietnamese lady approached pakdokter to invite pakdokter for a ?dance. Upon seeing pakdokter's partner coming back to pakdokter's side and confirming that we are a 'couple' she quickly invited us to join the crowd in the 'joget lambak'.
The stretch of the main street overlooking the Han River is lined by rows of coffee shops. Coffee culture is big here in Vietnam. We decided to stop at one of these coffee shops and sipped beautiful iced-coffee watching droves of men and ladies driving past on motor-cycles....
