Pakdokter had watched 'Chicago', the Movie, a year or two ago, at the cinema in Kuala Lumpur. The main actors were Zeta Jones, Zelwegger and Richard Gere. When we discovered that the New York Broadway Musical 'Chicago' was performing here in Tokyo, we decided that we should also see this stage version of the story. Richard Gere's part in this broadway show was played by Kevin Robinson, the lead singer of the band-boy group 'the Backstreet Boys'. Pakdokter was of the opinion that the stage version of this story was much better than the movie.
the Akasaka Act Theatre with the TBS Broadcasting Studio Tower behind it..
'Chicago', the Musical, played at the Akasaka ACT Theatre, next to the TBS Broacasting Studios, TBS being one of the main TV Channels on Japan TV. The Akasaka Act Theatre is an ultra-modern hall with great acoustics.
Rastam booked the tickets on-line and collected the tickets at a 'Lawson' outlet where the payment could also be made. 'Lawson' is a chain of 24-hour grocery stores very much like the 7-Elevens at home. The tickets cost 12,000 yen each, that's about RM 450 on the day's exchange rate. All the tickets cost the same but no matter where one was seated, the view of the stage gave everyone little to complain about.
Despite the economic downturn, obviously the more well-to-do Japanese have not cut down on their entertainment spending. The show that day played to an almost full house.
After the show, we walked around the Akasaka streets, first looking at an 'Agriculture Fair' of farm products from Wakayama prefecture. Then for dinner, we checked out the Akasaka Sacas Mall, a modern mall housing many restaurants offering various types of cuisines before finally settling down to a Catalan Restaurant called the 'Bikini' where we tried several 'tapas' and a main dish of 'Fideua' which was like a sea-food mee-hoon goreng.
