Pakdokter arrived at Narita early Saturday morning. The flight was smooth except for too short a time for sleep as breakfast was served at 5 am. The queue at the immigration took a while as Japan has started implementing the recording of finger-prints and photographs of every incoming guest to the country.
The limousine bus from Narita to Shinjuku took about 1hour and 20 minutes. What grabbed pakdokter's attention was the presence of the homeless who live by the pillars under the flyovers in downtown Shinjuku. Unfortunately, pakdokter's camera was in the bag. The homeless has put up home there with just a mattress and two or three luggage bags where they keep their remaining belongings!
Two days later, when pakdokter took a day trip to Nikko, there were more sightings of the homeless, this time they have put up plastic tents along the Sumida River.
The 'economic recession' has hit Japan as much as it has hit everywhere else in the world....
