Half way through the "Musical - Lat the Kampung Boy", pakdokter's partner received an sms from Rastam, informing that his company had given permission for all the 'gaijins' ( foreigners) in the company to go back to their home country . The few of them had requested for leave since the earthquake and tsunami but had been earlier told to stay put and carry on as usual as the city was relatively unaffected by the disaster.
Pakdokter was concerned about the nuclear reactor accidents which have not been succesfully brought under control. Scarcity of food and water supply due to the breakdown in the supply chain was also another concern. And as pakdokter had earlier reported, Rastam was also shocked and traumatised by the severe earthquake which he had not experienced before.
So it was with much relief that we received this news of him coming back for about 20 days or so. The caveat was that all the 'gaijins' are expected to work from home during the same working hours as their office in Tokyo. And they all have to report back by the 11th April 2011.
Hopefully, by then, things would have improved.
