The Nyonya and Baba Museum as well as the Tun Tan Cheng Lock School of Architecture of the NUS ( the National University of Singapore) restored shophouse were two museums pakdokter would recommend to visitors of Melaka. No pictures were allowed to be shot in the Nyonya and Baba Museum. For a fee ( RM10?) the guided tour was a popular item indeed. Scores of school-kids and tourist groups would follow the 30-minute tour and learn about the Nyonya and Baba culture and history as well as get informed on the many antiques left behind by the community.
The Tun Tan Cheng Lock Exhibition Shophouse could be visited for free. Apart from looking at the restored shop-house itself - the NUS School of Architecture has put up exhibits of their works and studies of the old shophouses of Malaysian towns like Ipoh, Muar, Kuantan etc. On the top floor, there was an interesting exhibition of the NUS project of rehabilitating the old city of Fez in Morocco.
