Pakdokter must have had a bit too much of a lunch and the exhaustion of the walk through Siena also sapped a lot of energy. So pakdokter excused himself from the group and decided to retire to the hotel for a short respite before going back to the city for the Parade preceeding the Palio. Actually the real reason was that Brazil was playing Spain? in the World Cup at 4pm and it was shown 'live' on RAI 3. It was a difficult choice.....but pakdokter decided that the Palio will be held every year and the football match was one in a life time! God willing, pakdokter can always come back for the Palio in the future...
The pictures below were taken by Raena on pakdokter's camera. The parade of the City Councillors, the committees of the various contradas, the priests, the police forces, the teams from the contradas with their accompanying drummers and flag-bearers made it a wonderfully colourful event indeed. Pakdokter saw parts of it which was streamed 'live' from another local TV channel, in between the equally exciting footbal match. The Parade started at the Duomo to the Piazza il Campo, where the Palio race was held.
