Pakdokter's Game..

Pakdokter's sleep on Thursday night was interrupted by a phone-call at 230am when one of the Koba golfers suffered a 'heart-attack' in his room. Half-asleep, pakdokter went about looking for his room but took almost 15 minutes before admitting defeat in finding the room in the sprawling hotel complex. The confusing signage directing to the rooms made matters worse. Failing to locate the room, pakdokter went down to the reception counter to get help for direction to the room, only to be told that the patient had been taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Pakdokter went back to pakdokter's room but failed to go back to sleep. For one pakdokter worried for the patient and on top of that pakdokter also worried that the Koba colleagues would have thought that pakdokter did not wake up at all to respond to their distress call.

It was a relief to learn in the morning that the patient was in a stable condition at the hospital ICU.

Unfortunately, the lack of sleep affected pakdokter's game. Pakdokter had to rely heavily on pakdokter's partner, Tg Azman, to carry the game, in the partnership match against our previous nemesis, Mesha and Erik Indradewa. As in Bandung, Tg Azman had over-exerted himself the previous few days at the driving range and was suffering from a hurt right shoulder? Right shoulder??........

And pakTgAzman was also quite a hyperexcitable and nervous golfer. His reckless driving of the buggy shook pakdokter's confidence in him. He was looking at his score-card and driving the buggy over bumps and barriers of the buggy track - dangerously threatening an accident. Pakdokter decided to take over the wheels and begged him to just concentrate on his game.

Pakdokter was assigned a handicap of 28 based on the last day's performance in Bandung and pakTgAzman 26. pakMesha got a handicap of 32 and pakErik 25.

We teed off from hole no.6 and the Koba pair quickly took the first hole and nearly went 2 up if not for pakdokter squaring them in the 2nd hole using the stroke advantage. Pakdokter took the 3rd hole with a par to square the match and TgAzman at last came in and took the 4th to go 1-up. We lost the 5th and 6th to Mesha to go 1-down before Azman squared the deficit by winning the 7th. We were still square at the 8th and pakdokter's par at the 9th sent us into the 2nd Nine still 1-up



We lost the 10th and 11th to Mesha ( who has been playing a much better golf ) and went 1-down through the 12th to loose again at the 13th to Erik to go 2-down. We remained 2-down through the 14th and 15th and Mesha clinched the match at the 16th with a par for a victory with a score of 3-up with 2 to go.

TgAzman vowed he would play better in the second match and told Mesha and Erik that he normally plays better if there was a small bet in place. Both Mesha and Erik gladly acepted the challenge and agreed to play the next game with small bets between us.
