Jaipur (111): The Amber (Amer) Fort....

Thursday, 4th March 2010

After completing the tour of the City Palace, the next destination was the Amber Fort, located within a short drive out of Jaipur. Amber used to be the capital of the Kachhwaha Clan until Jaipur became the official capital of Rajasthan in 1727.
The Amber Fort was built of white marble and red sandstone. It was first built by Maharaja Man Singh 1 in 1592.
The outer wall appear rough and craggy but the interior provides a soothing warm ambience. The decor of the Amber Fort has both Hindu and Muslim style of ornamentations. Exquisite paintings of hunting scenes on the walls depict the temperament of the Rajputs, who were adventurous, revolutionary and self-indulgent.

We reached the top of the Fort at almost 2 pm and the hungry lot of tourists were brought to a lovely restaurant within the Fort for lunch. A band of local musician welcomed us at the door and the buffet spread was delicious.

After lunch, the group was taken around for a tour of the Fort. It was quite tiring especially with the hot weather but the beauty of the Fort and its palaces was breathtaking....

we were driven down the Fort in a 4-wheel drive..
thank God.....

The group was driven back to the Palace on Wheels train to freshen up before being taken to the City Palace for dinner. Pakdokter was so exhausted and had headaches ( probably a mild heat-stroke) which forced pakdokter to give up the dinner outing. The butlers were so nice in offerring to make pakdokter a simple dinner to be served in the cabin, but pakdokter turned them down and settled for just bananas and mineral water. Pakdokter slept early and did not even realised when pakdokter's partner returned from the dinner.
Apparently the gorup had a great dinner with a fantastic cultural show in the lovely ambience of the Diwan-I-Khas of the City Palace. Pakdokter can only post pictures of the cultural dances courtesy of pakdokter's partner.
