We arrived the next morning at Udaipur and was tranferred by bus to one of he RTDC hotels near the airport for breakfast in its garden. It is a lovely hotel in a beautiful surrounding, with a stable of horses and a polo pitch. We were welcomed in the traditional Rajasthani hospitality, with garlands and 'puttu' to our forehead.

The first stop that morning was to the Saheliyon ki Bari or Garden for the Maids, a garden built for the princesses of the Maharaja. The very green garden had at its centre an inner courtyard with a swimming pool where the princesses and their courtesans could swim and relax in the privacy of their high-walled palace. There is a pretty lotus pond with carved marble elephants in several corners.
