It got dark quite early in Hakodate, and life generally wound down early too. The shops have all mostly closed down by 630 pm and the streets were relatively quiet - reminiscent of Melbourne city, actually.
Pakdokter and family, who slept in throughout the afternoon decided to do a night tour of Hakodate. It turned out to be quite cold, actually - at least for pakdokter! The temperature was down to 15 degrees Celcius and the TV News had reported that a freak snowstorm had poured down at Wakanai, the northern-most district of Japan. And pakdokter had only brought along cotton summer wear!
the temperature came down to 16 degrees celcius...
walking down to the waterfront...
we passed by the City Planning Department Building...
the water-front..
the red-brick warehouse at the waterfront...
inside the Beer Hall at the red brick warehouse...
we had a dinner of crab pasta....
grilled giant calamari...
grilled scallops...
We took a short ride on the city tram-bus, then walked down to the red-brick warehouse on the waterfront where we had dinner at the Warehouse Beer Hall. Octopus is the 'delicasy' of Hakodate - so naturally one of the dishes we had was a hot-plate grilled giant octopus.....
