Pakdokter discovered this hotel from the list of hotels offered on the KLM website. It was going for 99 Euros a night. Pakdokter's partner went to the hotel's website and discovered that if booked on the hotel's website itself - we could get it for 90 Euro a night and for a long-stay ( in pakdokter's case -7 nights ) we would be upgraded from the Deluxe room to Executive! And that's what we did and arranged with the hotel to send the pick-up from the airport.

We were not disappointed. This is a lovely Art Deco Hotel, in a building dated 1918 and recently refurbished and upgraded to a 5-star category. And it is relatively cheap for its comfort and ambience. It is also very conveniently located. 100 yards or so from it is the Palladium - Prague's main and biggest shopping mall. The Old Town of Prague - one of the city's main tourist site is a mere 10 minute's walk away. The Charle's Bridge another 10 minutes walk from the Old Town and the Prague Castle another 20 minute's walk from the bridge.

After a warm bath, we decided to have a quick lunch at the Imperial Cafe at the hotel. This is a lovely cafe with its intricate art deco designs on the wall and ceiling. Being one of the main tourist attractions of the city, the cafe was full of patrons at lunch time. We were lucky to be able to get a table.

Pakdokter tried the 'tripe soup' - sup perut - a delicious warm soup with slices of beef tripe in a beef broth which was slighly spicy with lots of herbs - quite like the 'harira soup' of Morrocco.

The bread was served with a bowl of salmon pate and for the mains pakdokter chose the bowl of mussels cooked with white wine and cream and pakdokter's partner had a delicious plate of grilled salmon. And for drinks, what else if not a pint of beer! This is the country where beer originated.....
