Walking to the Old Town Square....

Having got tickets for shows for most of the nights, we decided to walk to the Old Town of Prague since it is only a short 10 minutes walk away. We passed the Palladium Shopping Mall, the Casino, the Municipal Hall before walking through narrow lanes that took us to the Old Town Square. The lanes were lined by shops selling souvenier touristy items, Bohemian crystals and glass and of course many restaurants.

We spent about two hours at the Old Town Square. While walking around the square taking pictures, pakdokter was approached at leats twice by middle-aged white women begging for some money. One Indian man also approached pakdokter offering to exchange money - 1 Euro for 27 Czech crowns or koceks. Pakdokter had changed some money at the airport at the rate of 1 Euro for 21 koceks. The many money changers at the square put up a rate of 1 Euro for 24 koceks. Well, you cannot win all the time can you. However the money changer outlet at the airport did not charge any commission and promised to take back whatever unused local money at the same rate at no commission when pakdokter returned to the airport on the way out.
The websites we looked at before the trip did warn us about these illegal money-changers at the Square and the beggars. We were also warned of gangs of pick-pockets. So pakdokter was on the alert all the time!

We went in to check out the Grand Cafe Jazz Club which we had booked for the night. It did not look too promising and we were also feeling quite exhausted. We decided to walk back to the hotel to rest with the plan to come back for the dinner and jazz evening but crashed into bed form the exhaustion. Lucky for us there was no charge for non-appearence.
