Pakdokter decided to go to this session simply to listen to Indonesian writers reading and discussing their work. Rida Fitria wrote about the plight of Indonesian migrant workers and read from one of her stories about the life of a maid living with a Chinese family in Hong Kong. The other participant, poet Budy Utamy, read one of her poems. The session did not make much of an impression on pakdokter.
Pakdokter left this session early to catch Tariq Ali at the Neka Museum. Tariq Ali was certainly higly expected - the Neka Museum was full house and he did not disappoint. He was very articulate, still has a lot of 'political' fire. He was highly critical of Obama - seeing him as having achieved nothing so far and had in fact fared far worse than George Bush. He gave his facts on why he felt Obama has been a failure to him.
Tariq Ali also discussed his venture into fiction writing and his narration about his travels researching and working on his 'Islam Quintet' books made pakdokter decide to get holf of them for reading.
Pakdokter had known of Tariq Ali since pakdokter's high school days and writings about him used to fire pakdokter's imagination.
