Zebra Crossings

Monday, 20th August 2012

The first pair of lions we came across just outside our lodge's perimeter were rather too far away for a good view for our photographic enthusiasts to have a good shot. More and more of the other landrovers were crowding the track that our guide decided that we should push on and pursue the 'hunt' to other corners of the park, away from the crowd. That turned out to be a good decision.

Pakdokter's first impression was that the Serengeti did not have that much of wildlife as what pakdokter had seen on the TV's National Geographic. Noel later explained that a majority of the animals had actually migrated during the past 3 months to Masai Mara in Kenya because Serengeti was in a dry spell with less and less water and the wildlife had embarked on the annual migration to Masai Mara where water was abundant. These animals would then migrate back to Serengeti in late September into October when the rainy season of Serengeti starts.

However we did come across herds of wildbeests and zebras and occasional giraffes along the tracks that we drove on in Serengeti that morning.
