Lunch With the 'Don'....

Saturday, 26th June 2010

The horse-carriage tour of Palermo took about one hour to complete. Having now established a general idea of the city's layout and where the main areas of interest were ( the shops....) the group adjourned for lunch at a restaurant in a side alley of the main street. It served typical Sicilian cuisine as well as North African dishes, the legacy of 100 years of Muslim rule of Sicily.

Halfway through lunch we were welcomed by the 'Don', an immaculately dressed gentleman , who owned the rows of restaurants in the alley. And he was a very lovable old gentleman, too......

pasta with mussels..
a salad buffet for 5 Euros...
most of the salads were grilled vegetables in oil and vinegar...
quite common in the Med and north Africa..
the house wine was very fruity and light..

mussels soup...

pakdokter's dish of couscous with sea-food..

the ''Don" was happy to be photographed with the ladies..
he is more than 80 years old..
and owned the row of restaurants of the alley..
with one of his waiter...
