In pakdokter's library, pakdokter discovered these four books on Tuscany which pakdokter had read ( based on pakdokter's dated initials on the inside page) in 2001 and 2002.
In 2001 pakdokter and partner with Ravee and Siti and Rajan and Stephanie had vacationed in Rome and Tuscany during which time we visited Pompei, Naples and the Amalfi Coast before proceeding to do a wine tour of Tuscany ( and a day hop to Venice as well).
In 2002 pakdokter took the family and pakdokter's late father-in-law to Ischia ( an island off the Amalfi Coast famous for its thermal spa resorts), Napoli and finally a Christmas weekend in Rome. We also visited the summer villa of the Pope located on a little hill just outside of Rome as well as the town of Asissi.
Other than travel guides, fictional books as below are often pakdokter's choice of reading before the trip. Frances Mayes' other book, 'Under the Tuscan Sun' was also made into a movie starring one of the famous actress whose name has escaped pakdokter's memory ( maybe Diane Lane).
And if movies are your thing, pakdokter would also recommend the "Stealing Beauty" starring one of pakdokter's favourite actors, Jeremy Irons, and the ravishingly beautiful and young upcoming actress then, Liv Tyler, and directed by the academy award winner, Bernardo Bertolucci ( of the 'Last Emperor' fame).
