For some reasons or another, both pakdokter and travelling companion, Dr Ahmad Ravee, were attracted to the many tea houses that were aplenty in the towns of Yunnan which we visited. While the ladies were browsing through garment, textile or jewellery shops, the two of us spent our time tasting the varieties of teas on offer. The intricacies of making tea were repeatedly demonstrated by the well-trained local girls and China is definitely making the art of drinking tea becoming as sophisticated as the art of drinking wine in France and continental Europe. The teas became more complex and sophisticated with age and also more expensive accordingly. We were also trained to sniff and appreciate the 'bouquet' of the different teas, the differences in colour as they become more aged and their taste which came out best by slurping and chewing on the tea, very much like they do in wine-tasting......
