The morning itinerary took us to an outing to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Ms Beautiful Goose had warned us that being the summer holiday season the park was expected to be very crowded with domestic tourists ( pakdokter had earlier reported that 95% of the tourists to Yunnan were domestic visitors from the richer eastern coastal cities). She had taken the group of Malay teachers there a few days ago and the waiting time to go up the mountain on the cable car was 3 hours. We agreed that if the queue was long, we would forgo the cable car ride.
While driving on the highway to the mountain we could already imagine what the queue would be like and we decided not to make it up on the cable car. In return we spent more time at the Ganhaizi Lake - a park near the mountain with a large lake whose water was blue ( due to high copper deposits of the earth in the region) and crystal clear. Some parts of the river leading into the lake was dammed to create lovely ( but artificial) waterfalls.
