We checked out after breakfast and were sent to the Kunming Airport for our domestic flight to Lijiang. We learnt from the first 2 days in Yunnan that 'credit cards' were not widely accepted in most places and changing 'currencies' and 'travellers cheques' were quite a hassle. It was very much like Europe before the EU days. Some hotels accept and change foreign currencies and the exchange counters at the China State Bank was slow due to many forms and scrutinies....
So next time you travel to this part of China - bring a lot of cash!
The Kunming Airport is still the same one pakdokter came through twice in the past. It was near to the city but was becoming over-crowded. The New Kunming Airport should be operational by the end of this year but is located some 1 hour out of town.
The flight to Lijiang took about 35 minutes. The aircraft ( Boeing 767?) was new and comfortable. A bottle of mineral water was served during the short flight.
the domestic boarding lounge at Kunming...
the Lijiang International Airport is brand new....
not even fully opend yet...
so in future perhaps one can fly directly into Lijiang...

altitude about 2800 metres....
the highway linking the airport to the city was under construction..
so it took about one hour despite the short distance...
some lovely valleys and rivers as we ascended some hills from the airport...
