Masai Mara - Day 2 - An Early Morning Wake-Up for the Hot-Air Balloon Ride

Pakdokter and partner had to wake up at 5 am and miss the breakfast at the lodge because we had booked to do the hot-air balloon ride  which meant at least an hour or so drive from the lodge to the take-off spot located at the other end of the Masai Mara on the border with Serengeti in Tanzania. Along the way - to our good luck - we came across a pair of lions with a fresh kill - they were enjoying their dinner?/breakfast, and the lights shining from our jeep did not bother them at all. They were feeding on a wilderbeeest which they had just hunted down. In fact the poor wilderbeest was still kicking its last few breaths of life as the lions bit through its flesh.

There were easily about 10 to 15 balloons taking off that morning. We were given a briefing by our pilot - a lovely Australian lass whom pakdokter's partner said had the beautiful looks of the famous Aussie actress - Nicole Kidman. She demonstrated to us how to board the hot-air balloon, safety precautions etc and spoke to us with full confidence and made us not to worry about her capability. In fact she is the only female pilot of hot-air ballons at the Masai Mara
