The Avenue Champs-Elysees

28th May 2014

We took nearly 2 hours to enjoy our 3-course lunch at the Lenotre Pavillion Restaurant - resting our tired legs and enjoying the ambience of the place. Next agenda for the day was to stroll along one of the most famous streets of the world - the Avenue Champs-Elysees.

The avenue stretches from the Place de la Concorde to the east up to the Place de Charles de Gaulle to the west where the Arc de Triomphe is located. The first half of the avenue is a wooded area where the Lenotre Pavillion Restaurant is located as well as some other important buildings such as the Theatre Marigny, the Grand Palais and the Elysee Palais. Further to the west the avenue is lined by clipped-horse-chestnut trees, and theaters, cinemas, cafes, restaurants and luxury specialty shops.

The name Champs-Elysees is French for the Elysian Fields - in Greek mythology this is the place for the blessed dead.
