'Dining on the Rocks'....

3rd July 2009
Pakdokter tried to book a table at this restaurant on the first day we arrived at Koh Samui but it was fully booked for the first two days. So we settled for an early dinner slot on Friday evening ( as it was the only slot available) to enable us to capture the 'sunset' from this vantage point.
The 'Six Senses Hideaway' is a luxury boutique hotel consisting of 66 independent villas, each with a private pool of its own, built around a rocky hillock facing the Gulf of Siam. The development is reminiscent of our own 'the Datai' in Langkawi. The villas will cost you at least RM1200 per night.
From the reception, one gets a fantastic view of the Gulf of Siam and a part of the hillock on which the private villas are discreetly built and hidden amongst coconut palms and bamboo bushes. It took a short buggy ride to go to the restaurant aptly named " Dining on the Rocks" as it is built on a platform raised over a rocky promontory overlooking the sea.
The food is 'fusion' with a slight emphasis to 'wellness cuisine'....
One has a choice of several sets of a 6-course 'degustation menu' with pairings of recommended wines for each of the courses or simply order from the ala carte selection.
As we dined under the stars and the almost-full moon, we were entertained by an outstanding pony-tailed American musician who strummed melodies of the Beatles, Eric Clapton, James Taylor and Carol King on his acoustic guitar.....
