The Bharatpur Bird Park...

Tuesday, 9th March 2010
The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is a famous avifauna sanctuary that saw thousands of rare and higly endangered species of birds such as the Siberian Cranes go there during the winter season. Over 230 species of birds are known to have made their home in this sanctuary.
It was created 250 years, initially a natural depression but was later flooded by the Ajan Bund constructed at the confluence of 2 rivers, the Gambhir and the Banganga. The park was the hunting ground of the Mahahrajas of Bharatpur, a tradition dating back to 1850 when duck shoots were organised annually in honour of the British Viceroys.
Pakdokter and company left the train early morning and were transferred by bus to the park. At the entrance a convoy of rickshaws pedalled us through the park and stopped every time there was a sighting of birds and animals.
Breakfast was served at a hotel within the park.

it was a freezingly cold morning.....
