Jodhpur (1):Jaswant Thada, The Royal Crematorium...

Monday, 8th March 2010

From Jaisalmer, it was another long overnight train journey across the desert to the city of Jodhpur. The city is also known as the Sun City as well as the Blue City of Rajasthan. It is located on the foothill of a sandstone hillock and is seen like an oasis in the vast desert.
First stop that morning was to the Jaswant Thada, the Royal Cenotaph, made of white marble. It was built in the 19th century to commemorate Maharaja Jaswant Singh 11, the 33rd Rathore Ruler of Jodhpur.
