Touring Palermo on a Horse-Cart...

Saturday, 26th June 2010

Palermo could be toured on the city's hop-on hop-off bus for 20 Euros per person which would be valid for the whole 24 hours of the day. The two lines would have taken to most of the tourist sites of the city. One can stop at any one of the places of interest, and after finishing the visit could hop-on the next bus which would come around every 30 minutes or so to the next destination.

Walking towards one of the bus stops, a horse-cart boy approached pakdokter's group and offerred to do the same for us. Alexis or Alex for short, an enterprising young Sicilian boy offerred the whole group a fee of 60 Euros for the ride which we first turned down rather suspiciously. On second thought pakdokter felt that it was actually a bargain as the bus tour would have cost us ( a group of 6)a total of 120 Euros! So after a short bargain, Alex agreed to a fee of 40 Euros!

We were taken to a tour of the main streets of Palermo with stops at the main sites to enable some of the photography enthusisasts in the group to go down and take their shots.

The only short-coming was the fact that Alex spoke very little English and could not tell us much about the various places. The tour bus would probably have a tour guide or a taped guide with information of the city attractions.

Anyway, these facts could easily be googled these days...
