Through Karatu into the Ngorongoro Park

Sunday, 19th August 2012

After about an hour of the 'picnic lunch stop', we pushed on along the ascending highway passing through the town of Karatu after which we had to stop and be registered at the entrance into the Ngorongoro Park. Te town of Karatu is a fertile district due to its constant good water supply and as such many corn, wheat and coffee plantations are found here.

Once we passed through the gate into the Ngorongoro Park - the road was no longer properly metalled. The rough and tough ride started from here. The drive was bumpy and slow and it was the first of many days of rough and bumy ride to come.

We kept ascending through the Ngorongoro Park towards the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater which stood at 2800 metres high.
