Exploring Oviedo - A City of Sculptures

Thursday, 5th June 2014

We had a full free day on Thursday to do our own thing. We woke up quite late for breakfast and decided to venture out and explore the town. Some of our group members who had started out earlier had finished touring the Old Quarter and was on their way to take a short train ride to Gijon - a coastal town with another interesting "train museum'.

Our hotel is located in the newer part of Oviedo - and parallel to it is the main shopping street of the town. The distinctive feature of this town that caught our immediate attention was the many sculptures put up along the street and at most o its squares. Although there is a tourist brochure that has some explanation about some of these sculptures - it would have been nice if we had engaged a guide to take us around and to describe the many interesting buildings and sculptures that we came across.
