May Medal and the Tun Hussein Onn Trophy

The first weekend of May pakdokter played in two competitions at the RSGC. On Saturday afternoon, the May Medal saw pakdokter playing with Tg Farith (22), Tg Muzafar (21) and Dr Chang Ham Loong (20). Dr Chang Ham Loong was 10 years pakdokter's senior in medical school and was a lecturer in Anaesthesiology before venturing out into private practice. Dr Chang was also a commitee member of the club GC and Club Captain some years ago.

The rainy spell had stopped and the course was dry allowing most of us to hit longer. And the green was fast ( speed of at least 10) and pin positions were mostly at difficult spots. Considering these factors, pakdokter played quite well, returning a score of 48/49 collecting 35 stableford points. However pakdokter could not beat Tg Farith who played a blistering game with his new R11 Burner driver and scored 43/46 which gave him a total of 41 stableford points to win the Medal C prize and the ball sweep for one of the Nines. For once Tg Muzafar had to pay pakdokter 3 balls and Dr Chang 6 balls. However pakdokter had to give Tg Farith 8 balls for his win over pakdokter.

Sunday morning saw pakdokter playing in the Tun Hussein Trophy. This was played on the 'bogey play' format. Pakdokter's flight consisted of Ahmad Khalid (12), Ismail Shariff (16) and Amirul Fares (12). Both Ismail and Amirul Fares are Mcobans while pakdokter and AK are Starobans. So it was also a matchplay contest between the Starobans and the Mcobansn as well.

AK was recovering from a flu and has not recovered his form. Luckily pakdokter came in at the crucial points and saved us from being slaughtered. At the end of the 1st Nine we were down by two and a half balls - the half was earned by the Mcobans from a 'double par' fringe.

Pakdokter and AK doubled-up for the 2nd Nine and taking advantage of the many strokes that pakdokter have, pakdokter kept the Mcobans at bay until the last two holes where we came to 1 down with 1 hole to play. Pakdokter reached the long par-4 hole 18 in 3 with a difficult, steep and fast downhill putt. AK was already out and Amirul Fares was also not in contention anymore. Ismail had a closer but equally difficult putt. Pakdokter's putt sent the ball to just a 2 feet below the hole for an easy 5. Ismail had to putt in for a par to square the hole as pakdokter had a 'stroke' here. He also managed a bogey to give the hole to pakdokter's pair to square the match and a win on the dommy.

In the tournament pakdokter came home with a score of -4. In the C Medal category, Kamarulzaman Omar (19) was winner with a score of +4.
