Palio 4: Lunch Break

Walking the streets of Siena took almost the whole morning. It was hot and dry - temperature averaged 33 degrees Celcius. The clear sky made the heat felt worse than back home in Malaysia. Pakdokter managed to even do a little bit of shopping, the sale at one of the city's shopping mall offerred some nice brightly-coloured jeans ( azzuri, blood red and rust colours) for quite a bargain. So pakdokter will be in fresh summer colours soon...
Meeting up pakdokter's partner in one of the streets, we decided to contact the rest of the group and joined them for lunch at a restaurant, Il Ghibellino, near the Duomo. It served typical Tuscan cuisines...

pakdokter shaved for the Palio...

at pakdokter's partner's request ( or instructions!)

that took off 5 years from pakdokter's age..

a roast of veal, still-milking baby calf...

very tender and very delicious..

a simple pasta with shavings of truffle...
truffle is a local delicacy famous in this region..
and it is generally very expensive..
dogs are used to sniff and discover the truffles in the ground..

a beef steak with a tomato-based sauce..

gelatos ( ice-cream) is a must when you are in Italy
especially in summer...
the display itself is mouth-watering..
pakdokter's choice of a dollop of pistachio
and a cafe ice-cream..
this huge helping costs 2.8 Euros ( RM 11)
