Mount Hakodate....

From Goryokaku Fort we decided to take a taxi to go up to the top of Mount Hakodate to get a panoramic view of the city. Upon realising that we were foreign tourists from Malaysia and that Rastam could speak Japanese fluently, the taxi driver immediately became 'a tour guide' and gave us a brief history of Hakodate, some of which pakdokter has written about in the blog-posts on Goryokaku Tower and Fort.
He also proudly told us that the night view of Hakodate from the top of Mount Hakodate is claimed to be the third prettiest view of such in the world. The first is the view of Hong Kong from the Peak, the second is the view of the city of Napoli (Naples) in Italy from the nearby mountain top of ?Vesuvius ( pakdokter did not know this when pakdokter visited Napoli on at least 2 occasions in the past).
From the top of Mount Hakodate the city expands out like a fan, flanked by the sea on both sides. The city lights glitter like diamonds......
Unfortunately the temperture at that altitude was probably 10 degrees celcius or even lower. And the strong breeze made it worse and we were all in our summer outfit! So we did not stay long and went down by the cable car where our kind taxi driver was waiting to take us on a night tour of his city.
The cost of the cable car ticket was 640 yen each way per person. Our taxi driver drove us up for only 1000 yen and offered to wait for us when we descended. One thing was sure, the taxi drivers here ( and in Japan for that matter) do not go about fleecing the tourists!
