The New Year Day at Odaiba by the Tokyo Bay....

1st January 2011
We all woke up late on New Year Day and missed the breakfast at the hotel which ended at 9 am. Although it was bright, sunny and clear, the temperature was in the low single digit and for pakdokter it was very very cold. So to deal with it, pakdokter had to put on the 'heat tech' inner wear, followed by 2 more layers of fleece garments before the final newly bought outer jacket....
We decided to take Raena to Odaiba, an island reclaimed and built in the Tokyo Bay where there were malls, hotels, family entertainment parks, the Fuji TV Station and the Toyota Exhibition Showroom where their latest designs were displayed.
From our hotel, it was an easy 5 minute walk to the Yurikamome Monorail Terminal which started from Shimbashi and ended up at Odaiba. It looked like Japanese families were taking their children in droves for a day out in Odaiba. There were also quite a lot of Indonesian and Nepalese tourists in queue at the monorail station.

without breakfast we were naturally hungry....

we lunched at a Japanese Restaurant where
all of us had noodles...
a traditional Japanese and Chinese custom
which beleived that noodles on New Year Day
promotes 'longevity...'
a drum festival to usher the New Year
a few of the drummers were children barely
three or four years old...
We spent almost the whole afternoon after lunch
walking through the shopping malls on the Decks....
