The Old Tokyo of Asakusa....

Tuesday, 4th January 2011

From Akihabara, we took the train to Asakusa, in Old Tokyo, which is one of the main tourist attractions of Tokyo. We did not realise that there was a festival ( New Year Festival?) taking place there and was intially quite surprised by the number of tourists packed-in in all the train coaches heading towards Asakusa. And the main street leading to the Sensoji Temple was packed with visitors like in a sardine can. Thanks to mobile phones, we could still be in contact with each other after being seperated in the surging crowd a few times.
Raena wanted to buy some souvenier stuff for her friends back in Edinburgh and Asakusa has a lot of stalls selling such items. Apart from this, local cookies were also available in many of the stalls.
