Mercado de la Ribera, Bilbao

the above pictures are that of ceiling paintings
along the corridors of buildings in front of the market

This wet market is the biggest closed wet market in Europe. Located at the fringe of the Old Quarter it is directly on the east bank of River Nervion. This market was built in the 14th century. In 1929 the architect Pedro Ispizua was commisioned to rehabilitate this market which brought out the Art-Decor decor of stained glass windows that we see today. Further improvements were made in 1980's and today it has 10,000 square metres of space for stalls selling fresh produce of the region.
