Rue de Rivoli

29th May 2014

We took the metro from Place Charles de Gaulle( where the Arc de Triomphe is) to our hotel at Chatelet Les Halles.  Our room at the Novotel Les Halles was ready and I crashed into bed and only woke up early the next morning. Pakdokter's partner did not wake me up seeing how tired I was and after walking around the neighbourhood decided to order room service for her dinner. Pakdokter woke up to a promising bright and sunny morning. After a continental breakfast at the hotel's lounge ( the queue at the restaurant was too long) we decided to revisit the Louvre for another round of photography in a better light.

We never realised that our hotel was just a step out of Rue de Rivoli which stretches out straight to the Louvre. Rue de Rivoli was built by Napoleon along  the northern edge of the Louvre and the Jardin des Tuileries to commemorate his victory over the Austrians at the Battle of Rivoli. Subsequent Kings extended this street into the Chatelet district to the east of the Louvre.

Below are some pictures along the street as we walked towards the Louvre.
