Edisi 1 Staroba-Koba Invitation 2012 - Day 3: The Results @ Pantai Indah Kapuk Golf Course (5)

The above score-card testified to pakdokter's performance on the 3rd Day as reported in the previous post.

The STAROBA Team was again victorious on Day 3. KOBA managed to get 20 golfers for Day 3 so there were 20 points at stake. STAROBA took 10.5 points against KOBA's 9.5 points. For the first time STAROBA was outright winner and took home the team proze of 80 million rupiahs to be shared amongst each of the team member. In additon to that pakdokter also collected daily winner awards as well as from the STAROBA daily pool. This was a very bountiful outing indeed.

Edisi 1 Staroba-Koba Invitation 2012 - Day 3 @ Pantai Indah Kapuk Golf Course

This was the first time that the Koba Invitation competition was held at this golf course. Pakdokter had played at this course a few times before during trips with the Staroba Tours. As such pakdokter had some local knowledge and knew what to expect. On top of that pakdokter was also in a 'confident' mood after a decent performance on Day 2 at Cengkareng. However pakMesha was also familiar with the course and as usual the two of us were expecting a serious and severe match to determine who would come out outright winner at this outing. Our scores remained even at the end of Day 2 - pakdokter's pair lost on Day 1 and won on Day 2.

Pakdokter's Day 2 form prevailed and led pakMesha most of the time. At one stage in the 1st Nine pakdokter went 4-up and allowed pakMesha to reduce the deficit into the 2nd Nine. PakMesha was somewhat rattled by pakdokter's consistency and in the end pakdokter warapped up the game 4 and 3.

PakErik was playing at the Pantai Indah Kapuk for the first time and this affected his confidence somewhat. PakErik hit very long but tended to be wild which cost him as this course has a lot of water hazards on both sides. PakTgAzman took an early lead and looked confident of easily taking a point home but pakErik did not give up easily and came back to square the match at the 15th hole. Under pressure from pakErik, pakTgAzman's game started to falter. Fortunately pakErik also crumbled under pressure and he gave away the 16th and 17th hole to give pakTgAzman a 2 and 1 victory.

At the start of the game pakTgAzman decided to pull out of our normal 'cut-throat' bets against each other as he said he wanted to concentrate on the matchplay event. So in the end pakdokter came home quite 'rich' with winnings from both pakErik and pakMesha. We palyed the usual CBT ( cash before tee-off) format common in Indonesia - with a stake of 100k rupiahs per hole and double that for birdies.

Pakdokter came home with another net score of 68 to the revised handicap of 29 and collected a million odd more rupiahs in the individual prizes.

Edisi 1 Staroba-Koba Invitation 2012 - Day 2 @ Cengkareng

The game on Day 2 was again played at the Cengkareng. Pakdokter's pair with pakTgAzman was again made to play against pakMesha and pakErikIndradewa. And pakdokter's game finally came and walked home with a net score of 68 playing to a handicap of 31! That performance delivered a 1-point to STAROBA as well as a substantial amount of rupiahs from pakErik and pakMesha to wipe out the losses on Day 1. On top of that pakdokter also collected some rupiahs for the daily pair and individual prizes.

The rest of the STAROBA players also did well and the Day 2 scores put STAROBA ahead of KOBA by 7 points going into the final Day 3 game to be held at the Pantai Indah Kapuk Golf Course.

The highlight of the day was the performance by pakAminJidon. In the 1st Nine, he did 5 pars and 4 birdies! to his handicap of mid-teens? His opponent, pakDatukSidek was heard to have said that he felt like he was playing against Thongchai Jaidee........

Edisi 1 Staroba-Koba Invitation 2012 - Day 1 @ Cengkareng

The Koba Invitation 2012 kicked off its Edisi 1 immediately a day after pakdokter finished playing with the RSGC Sunday Buayas in Jakarta. As reported earlier, pakdokter stayed on in Jakarta and checked in at the Millenium Sirih Hotel at almost midnight on Saturday after dining out at the Turkuaz Turkish Restaurant with pakRosliKkhan and Ibu Linza and their friends. Most of the STAROBA golfers had already checked in earlier. A few more were arriving on Sunday morning.

STAROBA came with a contingent of 22 golfers - the extras being reserve players in case of any team member falling ill on any of the days - this strategy decided upon to improve its chances of beating KOBA in the competition. KOBA had in its previous outings relied on its reserved players who replaced players who did not perform well in earlier rounds. That gave them, we think, the better odds at beating STAROBA in 3 out of the 5 outings.

Some new faces were brought in to represent STAROBA - one of them was pakdokter's dormitory mate of many years at the Blue House of STAR - Tuan Haji Yusof Abdullah - who hailed from Terengganu.

KOBA, which usually came with a contingent of 25 to 26 golfers, did not even manage to get a team of 20 golfers. Many of their engineers and managers from their tin mines in several islands off Sumatera were held up at home due to work problems. So in the end only 16 players from each team played in the competition on Day 1. The rest played for individual day prizes only.

Pakdokter was again paired with pakTgAzman to play against our perpetual opponents - pakMesha and pakErik. PakTgAzman had borrowed his cousin's new TaylorMade driver as he had been hitting longer and straighter with this equipment when he tried out at home. Pakdokter had taken over the driver from pakTgFarith who played with the RSGC Sunday Buayas the past few days and handed it over to pakTgAzman. Naturally, pakdokter was banking on pakTgAzman to carry the game for our pair but alas, pakTgAzman was a bit of a disappointment. Probably due to his overeagerness - he hit wild quite a lot - and we could not match pakErik who played well and carried his pair to victory against us.

Luckily for us, the other pairs played well and STAROBA led KOBA on the 1st Day 4.5 points to 3.5 points.

A Day @ Ampera Compound and Dinner @ Turkuaz

Pakdokter had joined the RSGC Sunday Buaya Jakarta Tour before being told that the KOBA Invitation 2012 Edisi 1 would be held immediately after that. So instead of going back to KL and going to Jakarta again as in the previous trip last year, pakdokter chose to stay on in Jakarta and continue playing in the KOBA Invitation game after a day of rest in Jakarta.

With free time on Saturday after the game at Rancamaya on Friday - pakRosliKhan sent his driver to pick up pakdokter to their residence at the Ampera Compound in the Kemang Raya district of Jakarta Selatan. Pakdokter had lunch there, spent the whole afternoon until late evening when pakRosliKhan entertained pakdokter to dinner at a Turkish Restaurant, the Turkuaz, in downtown Jakarta. Two other couples (pakRosliKhan and Ibu Linza's friends) from Jakarta joined us for dinner. We had a good spread of Turkish dishes prepared by the resident Turkish chef.

The RSGC Sunday Buayas in Jakarta - Day 3 @ Rancamaya

Our 3rd day game was played at the Rancamaya in Bogor. Again, those of us who are CIMB World card holders played for free whilst the others paid about 500,000 rupiahs guest fee. The young bunch of RSGC Buayas decided to play amongst themselves while pakdokter played with Starobans pakRosliKhan, pakRaisMansor and guest pakAminNikmat.

Pakdokter's flight played a friendly cut-throat game against each other and we managed to return home with little wins and damage here and there. The main 'battle' took place in the RSGC Sunday Buayas flight. pakRedza, whose games in the previous days had been affected because he had to 'monitor' the KL Stock Market ( which was in a bull run) while playing his games. On this Friday evening, his morning orders had made him thousands of ringgits already - so he could switch off his BB in the afternoon and focus on his game. And the casualties were his flight mates.....

Redza, too, like Rais, bought a new pair of golf shoes for himself. Actually he had to buy the golf shoes as he had forgotten to bring his shoes along that morning. But it was paid by his golf buddies who each must have lost an average of a million rupiahs each to him.....And Redza was generous to attribute hiw victory to his 'caddy' whom he said was superb with her lines ( and curves?).....

The RSGC Sunday Buayas in Jakarta - Day 2 @ Cengkareng

We were booked to play at the Cengkareng on the second day and pakRosliKhan and pakAminNikmat joined us to make up the full complement of the 2 flights. Those of us who had the CIMB World Card played for free while the rest paid a guest fee of about 500,000 rupiahs ( about RM170).

PakAminNikmat played with pakRaisMansor together with the first day winner, pakTgFarith and pakRedza. At the end of the game, pakTgFarith came back looking 'shell-shocked' and pakRedza kept shaking his head in 'disbelief'. They all were 'thrashed' by pakRaisMansor, who had played like the 'devil possessed". The lesson we all learnt - " don't judge a golfer from his size!"

Pakdokter played with pakRoslikhan and pakZulfikar and pakSyedHazrain.And as usual, these younger and stronger golfers 'bullied' pakdokter to earn their pocket-money. Luckily pakdokter was familiar with this course and was able to minimise the damage.

The overall winner was pakRaisMansor who treated us to dinner and still had enough money left to buy himself a new pair of FJ golf shoes at the pro-shop.
