Olympiakos, the ancient Olympic City....

October 2007

Another overnight cruise brought us to Greece where we docked (at Patras?) and took a bus trip to Olympiakos - the ancient city of the "Olympics". The site would normally be green with poplar and plane trees, but when pakdokter's party was there Greece had just sufferred a severe summer with forest fires that nearly destroyed this historic site. ( A few weeks after pakdokter's visit, the Olympic torch was lit up here to signal the beginning of the torch relay towards the 2008 Olympics in Beijing)
Ruins of the ancients temples, stadium and gymnasium were visited with a tour guide and finally a short visit was made to the new museum where artefacts from the ancient times were on display.
There is so much to read about Greek history!....
