Santorini.....

October 2007

After another overnight sail, the next stop was the lovely Greek island of Santorini. This was the prettiest of the few Greek islands pakdokter had visited some years earlier. The island was reached by boat from the cruise ship to the little jetty on the steep shore. If pakdokter remembers correctly, there was a lift (Funicular train)to go up the steep slope or else one can ride one of the many donkeys for a fee. The walk up could be quite demanding.

the 'boats' ( there is a special name for these boats actually - pakdokter cannot remember what it was called anymore) that were used to transfer us from the cruise ship to the shore...
the steep semi-circular bay leading into the harbour was once the deep crater of volcano..

wuff.......walking up was tough.....

donkeys for hire....
the streets and shops on top of the island...

lovely white-washed buildings on Santorini....
many of them are hotels or restaurants.....
