Dinner at the Ryokan in Hakone

We spent about half an hour at the Japanese bath before dinner. There were seperate baths for men and ladies. The bath had an indoor as well as an outdoor one in a lovely Japanese garden setting. After the refreshing soak and bath we changed into the Japanese house gown ( yukata) provided by the ryokan and walked up to the dining hall located on the highest level of the ryokan.

Dinner was a typical local cuisine made of up several courses. A large portion of the dishes were vegetable dishes and pickles. Sashimis and chicken or beef slices cooked on a hot pot made up for the meat dishes.

a whole fish of sashimi for each of us

a bean curd in light soya sauce and a tofu wrap with raw sotong?

 tofu, mushrooms, chicken balls

 rice cake
