The Guiness Brewery

Sunday, 31st July 2011
After some thought, pakdokter decided to tour Dublin on the city's hop-on-hop-off bus on Sunday. We wanted to visit places which were too far to reach on foot. Our first stop was to the Guiness Brewery and on the way we passed by the Dublin Castle and the Christchurch and St Patrick's Cathedrals. We decided not to stop there as on our return from the driving tour of the Irish countryside we would be staying at the Jury's Inn - a hotel just opposite of the Christchurch Cathedral. However on the bus the driver gave a good commentary of the palces we passed by - St Patrick'sCathedral, for instance, is famous because one of its Dean was the famous Jonathan Swift - author of the book the Gulliver's Travels - which pakdokter read as a schoolboy. Jonathan Swift - as Dean of St Patrick's left behind and donated his money for the construction of the St Patrick's Hospital - the oldest psychiatric hospital in Ireland ( and in Europe?) - we drove past this hospital on the way to the Museum of Modern Art at the Kilmainham Gaol.
The Guiness Brewery is probably 'a must visit' place for tourists to Dublin. It is the pride of Ireland. For a fee of 12 Euros? - the entry ticket included a free pint of Guiness at the end of the tour which was served at the tower-top bar which gave a commanding view of the city and the countryside. It is a very impressive and informative presentation on this history of brewing, the processes involved and of course the successful marketing of 'Guiness' world-wide with Malaysia being one of its main anchor serving the whole of the Asia-pacific.

waiting for our turn to tour the brewery...
the original 9000 year lease signed by Mr Arthur Guiness..

appreciating Guiness just as one would appreciate
wine and as pakdokter also discovered in China recently,
........teas.....

a pint of Guinness was included in the tour ticket and
served at a bar on the highest level of a tower
which allowed the above panoramic shots of the city...
