The Killarney Golf and Fishing Club

Friday, 5th August 2011
Pakdokter had booked to play at the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club on-line the first day we arrived at Killarney. The booking was immediately confirmed for 730am Friday morning. It was a very efficient and effective booking system. Green fees was 60 Euros per person.
The Killarney Golf and Fishing Club had justed hosted the Irish Open 2011 the previous weekend. The hospitality tents have not even been taken down yet. When we arrived at the club at 7am, even the pro-shop where the registration counter was located was till closed. But the staff did arrive at 715 am and the 2 flights that had booked for the early morning tee-off were duly registered. The other flight was a young German couple led a their 'golf pro' who was probably still taking them through their golf lessons.
At 7am, the weather was bloody cold. Luckily pakdokter had worn the 'light-weight thermal golf attire' which pakdokter had bought in Tokyo during one of the earlier golf trips.
The Killarney Golf and Fishing Club has 3 18's - the Irish Open was played at the Kileen Course - and of course pakdokter booked to play at this course. The other 2 courses cost less ( 40 Euros) to play.
Although it was only a week since the Irish Oen was held - the greens were slower than pakdokter expected and the pin positions that day were at the relatively easier spots. But we were able to experience a 'truly Open experience' when we came to the 17th and 18th hole. The pin positions were at the most difficult spots and the greens had been rolled that morning and by the time we reached these holes - we both 6 to 7-putted before we got our balls in.
Overall the course was not that difficult ( that perhaps explained the very good scores the players achieved at the Irish Open) but the scenery was breath-taking. The cold morning warmed up to a pleasant 15 degrees celcius by the time we finished our game. Local golfers mostly come in from 10 am onwards. The receptionists must be thinking these Malaysians must be crazy golfers to want to play at the first tee-off time of 730am!
at 7am, the club was not even opened yet.....

we were the only few golfers until after 9 am....

ths par-3 hole was a challenge...
lucky there was no wind in the morning..

once in the rough, forget about finding your golf ball...

this half-way drink hut is called 'the Chapel'.....
hole-18 with the club-house at the end....
