The Irish Museum of Modern Art

Sunday, 31st July 2011
We hopped back on the next bus that came around and headed to the Irish Museum of Modern Art, located at the former Kilmainham Gaol which later became a hospital/retirement home for retired soldiers and military personnel. For another take on this site, please visit pakdokter's partner's blog at www.aginghippietales.blogspot.com.
We decided to join the 'free tour' of an ongoing exhibition ' 20 Years and 20 Artists'. It was a fantastic tour. The guide - who must be an artist himself or a student of art - put us through the 20 pieces of paintings - describing the background of the artists, their philosophies, their styles/techniques and their messages in the works they produced. And all these artistes are Irish, of course, either living in Ireland or have moved on to other places but have made Ireland proud of their work which have become internationally recognised.
For once pakdokter could now 'appreciate' modern and abstract art......

pakdokter could not take pictures inside the museum, of course...
but the grounds of the 'hospital' was also an art expo
and below is a new modern apartment block built outside the museum
a development that took place in Irelandduring 'boom times' the past 10 years..
