Tokyo Day 2 : 1st Nine @ Kyo Chiba Golf Course

The golf course was not busy as most golfers were probably aware of the on-coming mini-typhoon from southern Japan. The morning temperature was 9 degrees celcius and with the strong winds and rain we were all prepared for a wet and cold day. All of us had been briefed of the expected weather ( in Japan - the weather forecast is almost always accurate) - we were all well prepared with the appropriate attire. Pakdokter wore Uniqlo's 'heat-tech' innerwear on top of turtle-neck long-sleeved golf shirt and a 'thermal' sweater on top of it. A wind-cheater was kept ready in the golf bag if the winds became to chilly and piercing.
Each flight of 3 or 4 golfers was looked after by a young girl caddy. The golf bags were put on a 4-seater buggy and the caddies were very fit indeed to be able to run up and down the hilly terrain to deliver the clubs to the 4 golfers in her flight.
The golf course was still generally brown and dry from the long winter season. Only the putting greens gave green patches to the course. Even the many pine trees along the fairways were devoid of leaves.
The course has so many lakes and the overall terrain was hilly with quite severe depression and elevation. Distances were manageable but the main obstacle was the wind. On average pakdokter had to pay 2-clubs longer to reach the usual distance pakdokter plays at RSGC. The strength of the crosswinds often carry the golf way from one side of the fairway to the other which often is made up of a lake.
Pakdokter played quite well nevertheless - made 1 par and very nearly missed another 3 as the speed of the green was fast and difficult to read. The missed pars were all from within 3 feet! Pakdokter played a gross score of 50 in the 1st Nine. Martin, pakdokter's flight mate lost 6 balls into the lakes. Luckily for him, our caddy managed to fish out quite a lot of balls from the lakes to make uo for Martin's losses. Senior golfer Foong Kai Ming put the two of us to shame. Uncle Foong scored 2 pars and mostly bogeys in the other holes.

@ hole No.1
Martin sent 2 balls into the OB right side of the fairway
pakdokter's ball rolled down the hazard before the lake to the left
only Uncle Foong sent his ball to the centre of the fairway
Captain Azlan started his game with a 'birdie'...
almost all fairways were brown like this

lakes, lakes, evrywhere
although brown, it was actually a layer of grass, not just earth
our caddy dutifully watching where the ball went

green speed easily 10
