Day 2 : The Tea House of DrTea...

Day 2: 27th June 2011

From the TCM Centre we were taken to a tea-house called the DrTea TeaHouse for a demonstration of the 'tea-ceremony'. Although pakdokter had attended one of these during one of pakdokter's last visit here, this turned out to be much more interesting. Perhaps the 'amoy' demonstrator was able to attract and keep pakdokter's attention because of her fairly good and fluent English.

It was enlightening to learn about the different types of tea from the common everyday 'green tea' to the various fragrant and floral teas like the jasmine, chrysanthemums and rose teas to the 'grand cru' puuer tea. Puuer teas come from the hills of southern Yunnan - they grow into very tall trees unlike the tea-bushes of India, Ceylon and Cameron Highlands. And this tea is fermented and aged - the older they are the more costly they become. Tasting these teas involve 'looking' at their colours, sniffing their bouquet or aroma and sipping and chewing the tea in your mouth for its taste - very much like wine tasting........

The health benefits of the different types of teas were also explained. At the end of the day we spent a few hundred ringgits buying some of the more exotic teas.........and these teas can be very expensive indeed!
