Day 3 : Dinner at the Lijiang Old Town...

Day 3: 28th June 2011

Being summer, it was still bright at 8 pm local time and lanterns were switched on to add colour to this beautiful city.

Ms Beautiful Goose took us to one of the many restaurants and with her help we managed to communcate our preferences and 'dislikes' when it came to the selection of dishes. Being in the hinterland - fish was a rare commodity and expensive! Fish would cost 250 yuan a kilogramme - that's a cool RM 125. And typical as in all of Yunnan dishes, they tended to be too oily and spicy spicy hot......Despite our request for little spice, our fish dish came with a full top layer of dried chillis and when we compained the waitress simply scooped out the chillis and voila.....that was our less spicy fish stew......

Our dinner of rice with a bowl of a fish stew, an egg omellete with tiny prawns, a black-pepper stir-fried beef and a simple vegetable sauteed with garlic cost 590 yuan ( RM 300). Somewhat expensive to pakdokter's calculations....

these waitresses only spoke Mandarin......

susaaaaaahhhh....

the menu had some pictures and Ms Beatiful Goose was great help....

but many of the dishes we wanted were not available....

the bucket of rice, the black-pepper beef and the omellete...
