Day 6: A Visit to the Songzanlin Temple ( a mini-Potala Buddhist Shrine)....

Day 6 ; 1st July 2011

This day our itinerary was to be driven back to Lijiang. On the way out of Shangrila - we stopped at the Songzanlin Temple - a mini-Potala Palace like the one in Lhasa, Tibet. This campus was built in the 1400's by one of the major llamas of the Tibetan community. It was built in the same design as the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet and is now an important campus for the teaching and training of the 'llamas'. The main temple is located at the top-most site - at different levels are the residential quarters of the trainee llamas from different provinces. Special lecture halls and prayer halls were also located ay different sites and levels below the main temple.
